Guess the Ghost

One child leaves the room to be “it.” Then let another child hide under a white sheet. The remaining children run around a bit swapping places with each other. Call in the missing child and see if he or she can name the ghost by figuring out who in the group is missing. The child who played the ghost then becomes “it” and leaves the room.

Bobbing for Apples

Fill a large bucket (or plastic cauldron) with water and add apples.  The contestants ‘bob for apples’ by having their hands behind their backs and attempt to pick the apples up only using their mouths. Tip: use coloured water to make it spookier but be careful you do not dye faces!

Blind Items

You can play this as a ‘guess what it is?’ game, or label the contents. Use boxes or bowls with cloths over the top, or if you have more time use a segmented box with holes in the top just large enough for hands to go in but not so they can see what’s inside. The contestants have to put their hands in the holes and identify what is inside just by touch.

Ideas for contents include:

  • Cooked spaghetti (worms)
  • Jelly (pond slime)
  • Pealed grapes (eyeballs)
  • Cuddly toy (rat)
  • Spider and web (decorative spider and web)

Pumpkin Pop Treasure Hunt

You will need a pack of orange balloons and a prize to go in one (we suggest sweets).  Guests have to pop the balloons by stamping on them, the one who pops the balloon with the prize in wins its contents.  If you have more time you can stick the balloons on a wall (be creative with your shape) and kids can pop them with a pin!

Donut Bobbing Race

Dangle ring donuts from a washing line (or similar).  Contestants have to eat the donut without using their hands. The winner is the one who eats ALL the donut without touching it! Tip: add extra fun by turning contestants on the spot before they attempt to eat the donut!

The Pumpkin Race.

Can be played as one race with each contestant having a broom and a pumpkin, or as a relay race with each team having a broom and pumpkin.

The object of the game is for the child to brush the pumpkin from the start to finish line…but the pumpkin will not want to go straight!!!

Glow in the Dark Ring Toss

Purchase some glow in the dark bracelets/glow sticks to create the rings.  Then simply pop a stake in the ground and voila! A glow in the dark ring toss.  Tip: make the stake glow by sticking a long glow stick to it!iStock_25884703_Small

Fill the pumpkin relay race

You will need 2 hollowed pumpkins of similar size and one small bowl/bucket per team, (you can carve the pumpkins it you have time and are feeling creative but make sure the popcorn cannot escape through holes).

On the start line have one pumpkin filled with popcorn per team.  At the other end of your track are the empty pumpkins. The object is to transfer their popcorn to the other.  Team members take it in turn to fill their small bucket/bowl and then run to empty it in to the empty pumpkin.  They then pass the bowl onto their team mate who does the same until the popcorn has been all transferred.

Mummy Wrap

Divide guests up in pairs and give each pair a roll of toilet paper. One team member will be the wrapper, the other will be the wrapped mummy. The first team to use up its roll wins.

Pass the Apple

Divide guests into teams and line each team up. The first in line for each team is given an apple under his or her chin. Without using any hands, the apple must be passed to under the second team member’s chin and from that chin to the next until all the members of the team have held the apple. If the apple drops, it must start at the beginning again. The first team to successfully pass the apple down its row of members wins.

What am I? Halloween Style

Write ghoulish things, e.g. a Ghost, Pumpkin, Black Cat, Frankenstein etc. on posit notes.  Without the player seeing it either pop it on their forehead or back.  Other guests have to answer their questions with a Yes or a No and the player has to guess what they are.
