10 Top Tips for the best Children’s Party

Of course you could hire an entertainer, but it is easier than you think to keep kids of all ages entertained at a party.  Here are some ideas about how to keep the party going yourself.  Not only will you get a chance to enjoy being a part of the party but you can save a few pennies too…

  1. Party table.  Kids finish eating at different times.  If you wish to keep them all sat so the cake can come out once everyone has finished, why not put blank sheets of paper out in the centre of the party table with some pencils/crayons so they are kept busy whilst others finish up their party food?

  1. Party games! Have plenty of fun games on hand. Have a good think before the party about which party games you would like to play and ensure you know the rules! Some games can be played in different ways so make sure you explain the rules (as you are going to play it) to each game before you start to avoid confusion.
  1. Selfies galore.  For older children, the classic disposable camera is a photographer-1434422great idea.  You could ask for them to be returned or can be given as a party favour. Make a photo booth area and have someone on hand to take some fab photos.  There are plenty of photo booth props you can buy to help out!

  1. The quiet child.  Not all children like the fast paced environment of a party. Create a quiet crafting or painting area where they can retreat.
  1. Cupcake decorating Simply have on hand the icing,71554-20160115 sprinkles etc needed to decorate cupcake. Make (or buy) plain cakes or muffins and create a game of decorating their own cakes.  This can be themed by using colours and decorations related to you party theme (princess pink, pirate/avengers reds and blues, frozen purples…)  This is a good ‘life hack’ if you are running low on time.  Also you could consider building your own fruit kebab or sandwich snack!
  1. Timings. 2-2.5hrs is the best party time-span.  This is because if a party is much longer it can be hard to keep the momentum up, children become tired and troublesome and therefore are more difficult to entertain.  However, unless you have a really young birthday child, if you plan the party for less than 2 hours you will struggle to fit in both food and games. Time has a habit of flying past when you are hosting your own party!
  1. Decorate the children.  Don't just stop at the party room! Yes you could hire a face painter (I have done in the past) but you, or an arty friend, could use stencils and face paint to decorate guest’s arms and faces.  Glitter tattoo kits can be bought for both boys and girls.  You could also consider some temporary tattoos that could be themed to your party.

To avoid disappointment tears you can ensure everyone either wins a prize or you could have some participation prizes.  A good idea is to say at the beginning of the party that at the end of the party there is going to be a prize for the most fabulous party guest.  Then anyone who did not win a game prize can receive a prize (or joint prize if more than one) for simply being the most fabulous guest!

  2. Music.  What is a party without music? Make sure your playlist is updated with both themed music and the songs you children are currently listening to.  Then just sit back and watch them break our into songs through the party.
  1. Marvel_party in a boxBe relaxed, join in, and have fun yourself! If you are happy and (at least) looking like you are having fun, the children will pick up on this and enjoy themselves too.  If the games are not running 100% by the rules, look around – are they enjoying themselves? Simply let them finish the game and, if you want it played to the rules, say ‘that was a good trial, now let’s play properly so we can win some prizes!’
